Until pdf became the popular format for printing, Ventura's eps
format caused a lot of RIPS to stagger and created errors. A
further problem was that many printers did not know how to
handle it since it had nowhere near the uptake of XPress or
Pagemaker. If you have to send documents to many different
printers, per client instructions, it paid to use what they were
most likely familiar with. In most cases that was Quark and
Pagemaker. Now Indesign is everywhere, replacing Pagemaker.

Corel also abandoned Macs. That has never been a good idea in
the creative area. In the mid 90s, when Adobe was so slow in
updating their Mac offerings, their sales fell off remarably - to
the point that they faced being taken over by Quark. When
Quark's ownership changed hands and they became slow to
update for OSX, Adobe got a big leap.

Corel has had many good programs that lost market share,
CorelDraw was the first to offer, by many years, WYSIWYG font
previews. It was a wonderful app, but it's market share
continued to wither. Many people, especially lawyers, love
Wordperfect because of it's ability to handle long documents
better tahn Word. Still, its marketshare has died.
