Both take a backseat to Corel Ventura 10
As a book and catalog publisher, I cannot let this InDesign/PhotoShop vs. Quark debate go on like this. Neither of those programs is suitable for books or catalog production. They both take a distant backseat to Corel Ventura 10, the latest version of the application that invented desktop publishing. Informal surveys of desktop publishers who use Quark, InDesign, FrameMaker, and Ventura 10, they overwhelmingly prefer Ventura 10 over the others, especially when it comes to long documents like catalogs and books. Several have gone so far as to document that it would take thousands of dollars in add-ins for these other applications to match the built-in features of Ventura 10 and its built-in Database Publisher functions. I've tried the others and have got to say that Ventura 10 is the only really suitable for longer documents. It's a shame that Corel has forgotten how to promote such a excellent program and pretty much ignores it these days. But even with a lack of development, Ventura 10 still stands heads and shoulders above the rest in terms of features, functionality and ease of use. I won't produce a book or catalog without it.
