That's another good reason!
Since Java Desktop System pretty much flopped, they would be looking for an already established desktop system to help boost their market and mindshare in the industry. They could go with any of the other established players(Mandriva, SuSE, Red Hat, etc) and still make a big impact, but as I previously said, they went with the current "hottest" desktop distro today just to maximize the effect. I use Ubuntu myself, so I'm very interested in seeing how this will pan out for both Sun and Ubuntu.
