Erm...
Last I noted the point of Ubuntu was primarily for the Desktop. Anyhow, that aside, I can't see Sun giving up on Solaris.

There are many many things that Solaris has in it that Linux of whatever flavour doesn't really match up to.

IMHO I reckon they are looking at Ubuntu (together with Solaris) to provide a front to back (desktop right up to big iron server) solution that "works extremely well" on hardware they provide. Not too many Linux desktops are as nice as Ubuntu, and not too many *nixes are as good as Solaris on servers. My 2c worth.
