CPU intensive??? Bunk...
Java has threading support built into the language. The Java version of many apps will run better than native versions on multi-core CPUs. Even on single-core CPUs, the past few major releases of JREs have significantly improved performance. You're also confusing slow performance with CPU utilization. There is no indication that Java hogs CPU. It is actually very unselfish in that regard, yielding well to other processes.
