Not a stunt
Google's request was for changing IE was pretty simplistic. All they asked is that if a user did not have a search engine defined as their default that they would be presented with a list of search engines to choose from. That would mean that:

(1) People who already have their default set would not have to change it or even be bothered with choosing after they upgrade and..

(2) All search engines, including Yahoo, would be easily selected by the end users.

With this ruling it can only be said that customers have lost out in getting choices. This is pretty common though since, like with all Microsoft products, choice is an option you have to work actively for.

This is only gonna result in Google doing the following:

(1) Pushing the hell out of Firefox and Opera.
(2) Google may consider enter the OS business. I think this is something they have been toying with in back rooms at Google for some time now. Lets see what happens.
