- Hate to bring this up, but why isnt it strange that ms is involved with sco
-
Bashing MS is old and tiring, but this connection between MS and SCO really bothers me. Someone needs to investigate their financial ties.
In 2003 MS invested $18 million into SCO licenses for MS's own Unix support (I believe)... This is fine and dandy but... I mean... why SCO? There were alternatives and SCO is hardly a company with a strong background in anything. There were better alternatives. Ok well that?s not a big deal but didn?t Caldera (what SCO used to be before they became know as SCO) sue Microsoft in the past and win (well they settled and sealed the files if memory serves me... I hate it when they do that)? I mean... come on. If a company sues you, do you really come back later and reward them with a contract (for an OS you want to kill for that matter) when you have better alternatives with proven companies like IBM or Corel (whom you have already invested over $100+ million into and hello? remember Sun Solaris)? Ok no problem there either.
Do you guys remember Corel Linux? Remember what happened after MS invested money into Corel? Corel Linux was dropped and so were all Linux applications. The most important being Corel office for Linux.
MS has invested into SCO. Now SCO is basically trying to destroy Linux. Now I don?t use Linux because I cant play my games on Linux very well, but I would hate to see Linux companies, and Linux development stifled by underhanded tactics. Even if SCO doesn?t win, if you were a business owner, would you invest in an OS knowing that it may cause you legal problem in the future? Or, that you may have to pay extra money to keep it in the future?
Also, SCO?s chances of winning are so outlandish that it harbors on lunacy to even try this tactic. They are setting themselves up to lose and I am sure they know it. So why do all this and make yourself look bad when you have money coming in from MS and Sun and whoever else? Who gains regardless of whether or not you win or lose? The answer to that is MS. No matter what happens MS has already gained in its effort to scare people away from Linux and if by some act of god SCO wins this legal battle with licenses, MS wins again because people will be real nervous about Linux and it will increase its rollout cost.
I don?t know. I may be wrong and completely off base, but it really looks fishy to me, and its too much to ignore.
MS please say it aint so.
