With a 'pals' database thay could get a much more complete picture since usually people tend to influence each other in groups.
I agree that 'security' is not mentioned explicitly in the article. Try to convince me that MS will not enable (by default) some mechanism to put aside stuff that comes from 'non-friends' or that it will not use the knowledge of social associations of a person to decidefor the user who is a friend and who maybe an enemy.
