Tic, MS is a little better than that.
MS is very good at predicting the future. After all they did bring us the PC while IBM pushed it quietly, hoping it would not be more popular than its mainframes. They are also very good at marketing and setting up systems. As for inventing, they are fair. They have to have something on the ball, otherwise they would have been vanquished a long time ago when they didn't have money.

They do serve a useful purpose for having the capital to bring other's ideas to market. Most brilliant inventors don't know jack about marketing their ideas. So they take their 2%-4% of retail all the way to the bank.
