Pay once must stay.
Lochhead obviously is the one not listening to customers. Despite all the hype over the ASP model, it's clear that both consumers and corps don't want to buy software on a "continual payment" basis. Like anything else we buy, we'd rather pay a *fair* price once and be done with it, while continuing to use the product as long as it lasts. Can you imagine "pay per wear blue jeans"? Why in he** should we pay monthly for an operating system? No, the real issue is that much software has become "good enough" and vendors don't truly innovate to provide a compelling reason to upgrade.
