I'll take a bet
I think GP and SAP are in different spaces. Or should be.
You can run GP on almost nothing hardware-wise; and very little in software-wise (I can run both server and client on a half way decent laptop). If MS would drop the price a bit ( well, a lot ), I think it (GP) could become the commodity small business package, with SAP something you can move up into. With both having Office-like interfaces and Office integration, it could become a nice ladder.
