Well....
Whether they have a SAP use or not, how does that reflect the company? How can SAP USA be "bought out" if SAP World still exists? Why would SAP sell their IP?

"A SAP USA could well be purchased by one of the companies likely to be split off from Microsoft."

With Microsoft's current model.. They couldn't support a product like SAP. They would need a tremendous amount of restructuring. Anyone who's ever worked in the ERP business can tell you. Buying an ERP system isn't cut and dry like buying an application out of the box.. Like Windows, Office, Open Office, Linux etc..

It's more involved because it's all about business processes, accounting, inventory, warehousing, etc etc... You can't just call some random "Tech" support guy to answer your question becuase they would need to understand your business, your laws (for the country), your taxes, your standards etc..

You won't see a "cookie cutter" application in the business environment that involves business processes since many require custom reporting etc. There are some, but they will never become "main stream" like SAP, Oracle, Peoplesoft etc... ERP's require customization. (Especially for MID to Large size businesses)

Imagine MS having to give source code, sql procedures away with their product? That defies everything they've stood up for.

Heck would MS want to hire people to do ERP integration, consultation etc?

I can't see it ever happening, but I could be wrong... If it ever were to happen.. It would be a HUGE undertaking on Microsoft's part.

Of the customers I've had to move ERP systems I have yet to see one go without some form of customization. Heck, and usually it takes months to process data from one DB to the next. Most cookie cutter ERP's don't have the capabilities.. For example.. Deltek FMS (formerly Wind2).. It's a cookie cutter ERP if you even want to call it that. With lacking functionality, and worst part is.. They are dead set against any customization to suit a businesses needs. So they get stuck with "small businesses".
