SCO and RIAA not the same.
While I am certainly no fan of the RIAA, McBrides claims that they are similar in what they are trying to do is ridiculous.

There is no dispute over the ownership of copyrights regarding the music involved in the RIAA's actions.

SCO on the other hand has presented NO evidence that they have any legitimate claim to even a single line of code contained in the Linux kernel. An even stronger arguement suggests that GPL code is illegally contained in SCO's proprietary products.

It seems to me that SCO has no case against any end user until they prove their claims concerning the supposed "mis-appropriated" code.

The fact that they released their own Linux distro including the 2.4 kernel demonstrates that they did not practice due diligence to protect their IP. (if there is any to begin with in the kernel)

It is also common practice to point out infringements in order to give the offending party a chance to remedy the infringement.

This isn't about SCO protecting their IP. This is about SCO creating an environment of through which they are attempting to profit.

If SCO's actions aren't criminal they likely should be. I hope the SEC is paying close attention to these extortionists.
