Easy Answer
Don't use AOL. Don't use Internet Explorer. Use Mozilla or the firebird flavor of mozilla. Send a loud message to microsoft and the other big companies that we don't want it and that we will stop it ourselves. I use Firebird and I NEVER get spyware or a single pop-up EVER. Of course, some of the web content doesn't quite work right but someone will figure that out soon enough.

Another thing to do is to not ever buy anything from a company that uses pop ups and make sure to send an email directly to them letting them know.

Then make sure that all of the information that you use in filling out online forms is false or funny and false (eg. use bill gates or darl McBride as your name as often as possible)

Use a free email account that has a spam filter and set the filter to block everything that comes in (that way the email account company will be the one pissed with the spammers)

Last but not least, use adaware every few weeks.

If everyone follows this plan there won't be anymore spam or spyware because the companies that use it will go broke.
