- re: Too bad AOL will be obsolete in 3 years
-
>>As if anyone will be paying 30$ a month just for weak Mickey Mouse content once broadband becomes the norm..<<
Yeah... Right... And I'll believe that when I see it.
1.) There are just too many people out there who are "tech-illiterate" and use AOHell for the simplicity it offers them. These people have no interest nor desire to graduate to the real Internet because they would rather have their training wheels.
2.) AOL already offers AOL for Broadband - where they only charge $9.95 a month (last I checked) to access the internet via a different broadband provider.
3.) Broadband options are slowly, but surely growing. If anything, it will take a lot longer than 3 years for broadband to be truly universal. Thus far, Cable ISPs and phone providers are moving slowly with their roll outs. There are far too many areas where the local telco has no plans to upgrade the copper lines going to homes to make them DSL capable. And there's still the issue of rural areas where broadband is pretty much non-existant.
Given the above, wanna take a crack at explaining why AOL's memebership roster keeps GROWING? They're at what? 35 million+ subscribers or so these days.
