Isn't there a law somewhere?
I could have sworn there was a law passed some time ago about requiring opt-outs for that kind of information-gathering. That is what got Gator in the end of its first incarnation.

AOL is a *nearly* total waste in any event. Slow, unwieldy and it filters way too much. It also is no good if you want to access your business's internal website-AOL blocks corporate Intranet sites.

Of course, it does work for the computer illiterate or older user just starting because they don't utilize the full potential of the on-line world (they are happy just to type in a keyword and find the latest Oprah book club information).

Personally, I won't allow AIM on my computers at home or at work. Too many system lockups for my taste...
