Not the whole picture
I think this whole issue is past thetheft/copyright infringement issue. People are genuinly fed up with being scammed in to paying rediculous amounts of money for trash. This system does not help the real artists that are trying to make real music and are trying to make a living out of it. The record companies are no longer sticking their necks out fot new bands. The sticj with the proven trash wich is painfully evident when you listen to the radio. I haven't heard real music for a long time now on the radio.

For me personally I no longer can get new music, that's worth listening to, on the radio/tv. It's almost all crap produced by a standard, a formula that is supposed to bring the big bucks. Not for the artist but for the record companies. Try and get a record deal if your not a boyband or a britney spears. It's almost impossible these days.

A lot of "old music" isn't even being put on cd because it doesn't have a profit probability.

Apart from that side of the story there is the part that tries to restrict you in where you can play your music. Even going as far as to slaughtering the cd standard and producing "cd's" that can't be played on a lot of older cd players. So now I have to buy the same cd three times? Once for my cd player, once for my car stereo and once for my walkman? What's next? I have to bring the cd player to the store so they can register it and prevent me from playing it on anything else? Will it scan my room for measurements so I do not in secret take that cd player and move it in to the bedroom?

The control that the RIAA is seaking is what has put a stop to me buying cd's. I do not tend to download very much either. I just listen to the cd's I already own. I copied them to my pc because cd's tend to get damaged and I'm not about to buy the same freaking cd again.

The record companies better get a grip on reality fast or they will become obsolete very fast. If a website can bring enough visitors to the site and offer unknown bands for download with the option to buy I think the days of the record sharks will be numbered fast. Why would I sell the right to my artistic talents for a dime per cd if I could make a dime per song!
