Which is why experience counts
I find myself in the unenviable position of agreeing with Google on this one. Ironically, the truth in Girouard's statement serves to highlight Google's most critical weakness in enterprise search -- it's lack of experience. As just one of the veteran vendors in this market, ISYS (like Verity and dtSearch) has been at this for nearly two decades. To be certain, our development experts get substantial credit for years of innovation, but we are what we are today primarily because of user input. Our feature sets are broader and more refined thanks to years and years of this feedback, so yes this input is valuable, and yes this is precisely why Google is NOT ready for prime time. Sure, Google has the means to play catch-up, but not the time. And while it's correct that users want to search the enterprise as easily as they search the web, but they can't get the former from Google. Don't take my biased word though ... plenty of 'industry observers' have said as much already.

Cheers,
Dave Haucke
