In Oracle suit, DOJ overlooks an old foe: Microsoft

The article misses one not-so-tiny point

It isn't the Microsoft angle, either:

In the past couple of years, many DoD agencies have converted to Peoplesoft, investing a really obscene amount of taxpayer money. The infrastructure is too big to rely on the changeovers in support and service that would surely come if Oracle took over.

But the DOJ can't very well come out and use that as an excuse for blocking the merger, can they? So they cite "monopoly" fears as the reason.

Problem is, if Microsoft is actually developing something similar, who's to say they won't get the "in." Especially since any government agency wanting to use even one MS product has to pay the Enterprise license for all the products (our agency is stuck in that rut). The possibility of MS taking that market becomes very real when one has to pay for the product anyway.
