Mine this!
I don't usually bother with the P2P system because I don't like spyware, malware, or virii. But today I felt the need to announce that I would start visiting warez sites.

I purchased a software package at a major electronics chain (not the obvious one-this one starts with an F) which did not recognize my SCSI drive. So I took it back. The clerk at the returns counter refused to give me a refund because the package had been opened. Well, DUH! How can I be sure if the software works if I don't open it?

The packaging called for at least W98 and a burner-I have both. The website for the product did not have any hardware restrictions listed, either. So how was I to know it wouldn't work?

I had to work my way up the food chain before I got my money back, along with a lecture about copyright laws and all that. Well, at that point, I decided that I will go find rips of big-money software to play with before I buy (demos don't always provide enough information due to their restrictions).

This package was under $100, but what if it had been something like Illustrator or AutoCAD? I sure as h#ll am not going to blow $$$ on something that won't work on my system! There just comes a time...

BTW- was anyone here registered with the lawsuit settlement over CD prices? I got a check yesterday-$13.87 for ten years of overpaying and the CD prices have yet to come down. I can understand the frustration and truly think anti-piracy systems are misplaced. Look for the guy selling the stuff on the Internet and leave the casual sharer alone.

And I say this not only because I will likely join the ranks, but because I am frustrated at this point with the alternatives offered.
