Windoze Killer? Not yet
I have been looking for alternatives for Windows for some time. Linux seemed the logical choice, but which one? I tried Red Hat and found myself back in the DOS days, with even less help! Lindows/Linspire came out and I decided to give that a try. I even bought a laptop with a wiped drive with the idea of making it primarily a Linux machine with the drive partitioned for Windows as well for some purposes. I couldn't even get Linspire to install! My son, a Linux guru, also could not get it to work. It also wouldn't install on my desktop, even though I gave it a whole drive to itself to play with (I have eight, after all.) Then I downloaded a copy of Ubuntu, and it is great! I switch back and forth between Windows XP and Ubuntu and feel comfortable in both places. I won't say it's the be all and end all for OS's, but it's quite satisfactory now and any improvements will be well received. As long as they don't mess it up as Vista seems to be doing to Windows.
