The problem with desktop linux is .....

Windows ! It's not perfect, but it's good enough. People know it, you can buy lots of apps for it and it usually comes with your PC.

The Linux community blew it 5 years ago. They came out with 25 different versions and each had their own goofy application installer.What a bunch of stupid idiots. It's tragic they had great backing from Intel, IBM and others and an opportunity to leap ahead of Windows crappy Win98 and XP stumbles.

You would think they could have at least agreed on a common applications installer. It's too late, the Linux guys still have no easy to use, common installer and the only UI they can come up with is a Windows rip-off? Good grief.

The window of opportunity is gone (no punn intended). They stepped on their own dikcs fighting Windows instead of working on basic user needs.
