Are surfers confusing search engines?
After using just about every engine available I always end up going back to Google, mainly because it lacks the bells and whistles which cause it to load faster. Yahoo seems to be a quick loader but has been corrupted through commercialization.
One of the funniest things I've seen are the nonexistent books advertised for Amazon because Amazon uses the crazy notion that when you type a term into a search engine, you may be looking for a book on that topic by presenting the surfer with "Find books on *search topic* ". People see this and think wow, I didn't know there were books published on "search topic" and actually go there to see that there are not.
More often than not, web surfers are bored, easily confused, and have a disorientation in their employment tasks or they wouldn't be "surfing" in the first place.
