Computer Science is a great career choice today
This message by AmericanWoman just reminded me that my degrees in C.S. and experience are very valuable. C.S. has been a great career choice in my almost 15 years in the industry so far. Personally I think that people (including colleges, students, and employers) don't really know what C.S. majors are supposed to be able to do after college. The "S" in C.S. stands for science, and in some cases it truly can be a science/engineering discipline as it should be. Engineering students are not generalized, they are very specific as to what type of engineer you will become after school. However, C.S. as a major is fairly young only having been around en-mass since the late 70's or early 80's. You will find C.S. majors doing everything from PC repairs/build, to IT work, to database or graphics work, to many different types of programming, and even sometimes to engineering. It really is a jack of all trades type of major and a catch all that needs to be a little more refined or sub-divided in some way. Of course, as is everything in life, it is what you make of it that counts. Laters.
