True, up to a point
First off, many of the older graphics(more than 5 years old) cards won't play the latest games anyway as many modern games require directx 8 and more so 9 to work properly. But that doesn't mean they don't function for other tasks. Yes, you can apply that logic to linux too, however to compare Linux's driver maturity to that of Windows right now is ludicrous.I've installed XP on countless systems with cards as old as 10 years and they worked. Most hardware on the retail shelfs today are written for Windows (specifically Windows XP)as a priority. Even MAC OSX is considered second tier in many cases and it is definately above Linux in terms of driver maturity. I can't say for sure if 10base 2 isn't fully supported (or not at all) so I'll take your word for it. However I can't remember when last (within the last 5 years) I've had to work on a 10base 2 network. I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm sure they do, but whoever still uses them need to get with the times. I know that's easier said than done in some cases but if the demand was there, believe me, XP would've had better support.
