Na.. I still think it makes them look stupid
what you are suggesting is that anytime someone makes a claim bogus or not then you should send them cash just in case. For example if I made a claim that MS is using some of my code in windows and you all owe me money, you would then pay me the fee just in case I right. That claim would take years to fumble though the court system and you would be paying me the whole time. Better off to wait see what happens. The key is to pay someone if they have solid proof you owe them some money. Then again If I have a correct understanding of how the law works. you would only owe them money if you chose to continue to use the product. they could not charge you for past usage of the software because the ownership was up in the air during that period. So yes it makes them look stupid because they are basically wasting money and any customer with any business sense would have to take a step back and question the thinking going on.
