Untrustworthy in any sense
``The company is building service packs for its Visual Studio.Net 2003 development tool and the .Net Framework--the software plumbing, or "runtime," needed to run Web services applications on Windows, a Microsoft executive told CNET News.com. The changes, which are designed to guide developers on how to use the latest security features, are slated for release around the middle of the year, which is when Microsoft plans to ship Windows XP SP2.''

So much for the 'Trustworthy Computing' bollognia 2+ years ago. The security tools WILL be retrofited later in the service pack. So what were the mechanisms SO FAR to implement or favor a more secure appl. development?

``"We're going to aim to have the release of (Windows XP SP2 and the tools service packs) as close as possible. Ideally, they'll come out together," said Tony Goodhew, product manager in Microsoft's developer edition. ''

So they not only they JUST started talking on changing the appl dev. environment for more secure apps but they still hope that the tools will be out by the service pack date!

One wonders what have they been doing to bolster their Trustworthy Computing environment so far. They were just releasing piles of patches upon patches.

This is how MS works: put something (anything) out quickly and then THINK about how to fix it. From the patching nightmares so far it means that the whole development, testing and correction cycles are just prety much random effort. What else is new with MS? They are good at getting the money, issuing carefully drafted EULAs but when the time comes to step up to the plate, it is just one botch after the other wink
