What is this, point, counterpoint?
Dang man you take this way too seriously. You need to relax and take a breath, ok? There is no TCO figures available. There are not 100s of thousands of MACs sitting on factory shelving, and in every office of every type of business imaginable. They've never been put to the test. The majority of business users running MACs are artsy fartsy people who probably dust their keyboard everyday. Don't take numbers when they don't exist.
As for the vulnerabilities, there are non-biased sites with all the proof you need.
Do hackers target Macs? Not as much (although there are some apple hackers hitting the elite but those are seldom reported ) As for mainstream use....the thinking that hackers are going after the meat of the market is simply true. You can try to brew up as many reasons possible and shine them up and try to make them sound good, but that is the obvious reason and the reality of it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
AVG = FREE
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
MS DEFENDER = FREE
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So how much is your subscriptions?
And you know...the deep sea diving thing is just way over the top. You put a mac on the shop floors like the gateway and dell and other generic machines, some desktops on their sides...millions of them running 24/7, getting kicked and whatnot. Who cares? They run for 10 years. Then they need new disk and usually, 9 out of 10 times a windows PC is updated for the requirements of a proprietary vertical product.
There is no business case for running Macs dude...give me one? What servers do you run them on? Linux right? Anything but MS...is that it.
You are not one of the misguided zealots are you? YOu don't really believe that server 2003 esp R2 is not an extremely functional, 99.9% availability, runs tons of business ready - great - software, do you? Have you been in a professionally run, large organization lately? Windows never needs booted anymore. Never. They are as stout as Unix now. That is just reality dude. live with it. I'm not saying linux is bad. I use linux for lots of things. But the core business functionality is running on Windows. You simply cannot get a better, more unified solution that is end to end and gets the job done and done well. The key is most people don't realize what windows apps can do. They are so powerful on their own that people overlook how much more power they can get out of them. An office front end to a distributed .NET program feeding real time data to end users for BI. It's all built-in but nobody talks about the fact you have been able to do things like that with SQL Server out of the box since 2000. Analysis server. Most end users have never heard of it. Gets no acclaim. Maybe 2 books on it at Amazon. It'a amazing. Quite frankly I'm not sure why MS did not really market and push for press time on those kinds of apps over time. There are new Linux systems splashed all over the place just now breaking into something getting close to what MS had out there for years.
A writer for one of the dozen or so industry mags I get put it well recently when he talked about how people are sick of hearing just about MS. So really the linux and open source news you do read, although true enough that it exists, is amflified by at least a factor of 50 with the heavy duty press coverage they are getting.
