Maybe.... not getting it
(what "it" is you mean or its importance)
or maybe.... I just have a different perspective.....
IMHO... Linux has been ready for the Desktop since the turn of the century. Some maybe many people may not yet be ready because they are unaware/ uninterested or believe the FUD & misconceptions. There is no parity in the market. (not available preinstalled at your local retailer) Yet those who are aware & interested have no problem getting & using (and even making) any distro they choose...

Like I had said.....
It seems to me that SuSE & Ubuntu because of corporate support might be the first to try and cross that threshold. (in a major way) of course there have been other attempts like Linspire & Xandros.

I personally prefer the Core distros, Slack & Debian (and their derivatives) and would not really consider myself a distro-partisan.

If you have found what suits your needs and are uninterested in seeing what else is out there, then great. I think Fedora is a great distro especially if do any Corp/enterprise work with RHEL or CentOS etc....

I would not be so quick to discount what you consider unheard-of, especially if you are unaware/uninterested in what is going on in the world of Linux.

Consider.... Who would have known 20 years ago a little company "PC's Limited" would turn out to be Number 1 today against the likes of IBM, Compaq, AST & HP.....

>> "And when I tell my totally non-techie parents all about that, I'm sure they're going to jump right on the bandwagon." <<

Well.... that was really for your benefit or anyone else reading that might have an interest in what its possible advantages, features & benefits may be.......

Only if interested... May I suggest
