Scortched Earth
Cracks me up watching the geek wars on MS vs. Linux. Anyone who has tried to take on MS and made it a personal vendetta to 'take down' MS lost and lost badly. (eg, Sun, Oracle, Lotus, Novell, Netscape, Borland). The players that survive focus on good products (eg, IBM, AOL, Apple, RedHat, Google, Yahoo, Adobe, etc). Notice that many of the latter acquired some of the former when they became weak and nice acquisiton targets to well managed companies.

That being said, MS won't be slipping anytime soon from being #1 in almost every sector and becoming #1 in more and more (watch out, Google, one slip and Gates will have yours too); but this will push the industry, MS included, to make better products with more choices.

For that, bravo.
