Guess what?
Americans are not only producers, but consumers. And we're tired of being gouged and used. We've gone to Japanese cars because they have proven much more reliable than the American junk. And as it turned out, there is not the huge expected loss of jobs, because Toyota et al. built plants here. We will also move to open source to rid ourselves of the proprietary software companies that use illegitimate tactics to lock us in, gouge us on price, and in other ways, disrespect their customers (think DRM, etc.). I'm not of the opinion that jobs will be lost from this move either. Many of us will learn new skillsets and move off jobs that require MS knowledge.

As for your comment re. Pearl Harbor, that is very much out of place. There was justified American anger at what the Japanese did to us then, but you need to keep in mind two things: a) us dropping nukes on them was disproportionate to their action - we wiped out hundreds of thousands of civilians in an instant; and b) the Japanese who now build Toyotas are not the same people. Unless you believe in punishing people for the sins of their forefathers, you can't take that line. Where does it end? How many generations is enough before you're willing to forgive and move on?

If you want people to buy American, then American companies need to produce quality. And with software, it needs to be produced in a trustworthy manner as well - meaning that we need to know there are no backdoors, our rights aren't violated by DRM mechanisms, etc. That no longer seems possible with Microsoft software. The American auto industry could still get a handle on quality, if they wanted to. But their profits come from service shops now, and they'd rather give short warranties and sell parts.
