Let's reply
(1) try sending your openoffice documents to one of your customers who is using windows/MS office (which is THE killer App, NOT Adobe). To keep it interesting, throw in a couple of graphs, a small spreadsheet. And if you can, please send them a copy of your presentation as well, they might want that. After 4 hours of phone support (or them crying into your phone line) I think you will understand what INTEROPERABILITY is about. It's not about the server 2000 miles away talking to the cc system. It's the little old secretary that has 5 days of work piled up and 2 days to get it done.

(2) The features that you refered to as "pestering" have won numerous awards and have consistently earned MS OFFICE "best product of the year" awards. Do a search, and after you read the next gazillion webpages you'll get the idea. Linux/Apple are still trying to catch up with their products. Fact is, MS is considered a leader in this field, they have come up with more tools than any 10 Linux vendors combined.

(3) I am an avid User of computers for about 20 years now, and even now, I don't know why on earth you would reboot your PC for new virus definitions. Maybe you confused the Linux version with Norton's or something, but I haven't rebooted my PC for that in years. Maybe a personal problem, you may want to put a safety cover over your CTRL-ALT-DEL keys...?!

(4) If your apps load faster under Linux than Windows, is it possible that your programs on the windows platform have run amok and ran unchecked? Look at the bottom right of your screen. If you have more than 7 icons down there, well I'm sorry but then you are a REDNECK according to Foxworth.

(5) Maybe you can get the combined power of your MS certified staff, your fortune 100 company, and your certificates, to solve problem #4. In the meantime, I'll just run disk cleanup every now and again, and maybe disk defragmenter every few weeks. Or maybe you should learn a little about where to place your most common files (you know, the part on the HD platter now occupied with Linux) so that they load faster. Problem is, when you installed Linux it probably moved the MS stuff to the slower parts of the drive (heck, it probably fragmented the files into 50 pieces each too).

(6) For openoffice to run on multiple platforms is truly a magnificent feat. Unfortunately, there are known file compatibility issues, meaning that the data files created by openoffice are not as "multiple platform" compatible. In addition, even if these problems did not exist, your customer would still have to go out and load this software, just so they can read your sales pitch. --Not really gonna happen, is it?!

Heck, according to what you're claiming, you'll be lucky they don't lose your email when they reboot while updating their antivirus and running "multiple platform" versions of openoffice on their atari 2600. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
