With UNIX/Linux
it is equally easy to do your work on a machine either
locally or remotely. This is a basic capability of the X11
windowing system. The X11 server runs on the machine
that locally displays the graphical output and reading the
keyboard. You can easily logon to any other Unix/Linux
host and launch X11 client apps that will use the local X11
server to display the graphical output. This is the ougrowth
of project Athena at MIT since early 80's.

With the idiotic ms windows desktop one needs to be
physically present on the PC. Distributed processing is
almost impossible unless you use their crappy s/w to help
you use several machines together.

UNIX/Linux (and other serious OSs) can share files and
resources seamleassly independent on the host one is
using.

You can find X11 clients even for the ms wndows PC
(xterm, window managers, etc) run your programs on
Unix/Linux anywhere in the Internet and simply sit
comfortably in front of any host connected to the Internet.
That's age old technology from the late 70's.

Ofcourse Mr BillG does not want to let user get accustomed
to this wasy to use functionality as he will lose the
opportunity to get to your pocket.
