That is not accurate
With the ms windows, every time you install new s/w or change the setup or install a patch you HAVE to reboot. For a 24X7 shop this is simply UNACCEPTALE. ALl these bi-weekly patches would simply kill a large windows shop, its staff and the productivity.

With Linux you need to reboot ONLY if a major kernel patch has been issued and in most cases you can happily live without rebooting to the new kernel. S/w installations and other patches DO NOT require reboot. Life just goes on.

We maintain linux servers for 9 months now and we only had to reboot ONE machine twice only because it sits on the Internet. The other machines didn't need reboot.

I also happen to have a pc at home that I got from a 'good deal' from a retailer. Everytime a simple configuration change takes place I have to reboot the darn thing and it takes almosr 10-15 mins to come up completely! I have stopped using it since I hate to bother so much. Until I started using mozilla I was concerned to browse the Internet with all the idiotic virus and the web page script traps.

BTW we are a large 24X7 UNIX shop and never have a problem with security or instability. We maintain several UNIX flavors....Never a problem.

ms windows is a constant pain to maintain. Linux is a very minor one. You make your choice
