Hardly an attitude grow linux on the desktop
Well... good luck getting linux to grow on the desktop with that attitude.

I'm a Windows guy, but I see the virtue in OSX apps that are encapsulated in their own directory so you can just drag them from place to place, machine to machine, etc.

Similarly, scattering files everywhere in the name of space efficiency is laughable. It's like linux embraced the biggest stupidity of Windows with both arms and refuses to look back with a little hindsight. Even Microsoft recognises that there is virtue in not always having a shared library.

And as far as binary compatibility... if windows 3.x apps can still run on XP, or OS9 apps can run on OSX, then I'm sure the linux community can run apps without having to recompile them.

Come on... these are the basics if you want to play with the big boys on the desktop. Hopefully Apple will license OSX for other platforms and put the dream of linux on the desktop out of its misery.
