Agreed, there will probably be a slump
As the Unix conversions max out. The windows conversions are really a long lead time endeavor. The PTO procurement mentioned here in the last month or two is a good example. The CIO expects to take up to three years to completely divest Windows servers.

Our situation is different, but similar. As we acquire firms, we find they have Windows in the server mix. Relatively strapped for resources and with the best of intentions, they haven't had a strong architecture plan (maybe why they were acquirable?). So we have to plan out the replacement and testing of the shrink wrap, along with planing for conversion of the custom code, generally planned in conjunction with upgrade and dependent on allocation of developer resources.

Then we have the question of converting the MSCEs and the like. Of course the total need for administrators is less, but we have a policy of retention and retraining when possible. So we look at the needs and their potential as programmers, Oracle DBAs or the like, and this factors into timing as well.

So I think the point is well made. The Unix conversion may well peak and fall off before Windows conversions kick in in earnest.
