Maybe I should be more clear
What I'm saying is that by introducing a wildcard into the DNS and redirecting all hits to its own site, Verisign effectively is cybersquatting on a nearly infinite number of domains. Many of those domains e.g, www.DZnet.com, www.mircosoft.com, and probably millions of others, each would draw a lawsuit from the holder of the trademark the mis-typed URL resembles if they were registered individually.

As one poster noted, Sitefinder conveniently offers web surfers "alternatives" to the web site they are trying to view. These alternatives are sites that have paid Verisign to be there. So, if linux-kernel.org pays Verisign to be offered to a person trying to reach Microsoft, how is that materially different than if linux-kernel.org went out and actually registered www.mircosoft.com to capture that traffic?

Who here doesn't think Microsoft would set its lawyers on them?

Basically, if you mistype a URL and end up someplace offering "alternatives" then that someplace is cybersquatting on a domain that is confusingly similar to a registered trademark. That's why Verisign will be sued.
