No viable reason for it.
Is there a need for a service pack to address security issues? Yes, of course, but that can be done without an update to the entire OS. In honesty, this is a case of "if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it".

Move ahead with Longhorn with all possible haste, make it a secure and robust OS, get compatibility under control, and then bring it on...
