All Microsoft would have to do is modify the Java source to be extremely buggy and then bundle it with Windows and Windows Update. It would cause massive damage/confusion. This is exactly what M$ attempted to do originally with Java, but SUN took M$ to court and made them remove the offical logo from the crippled M$ version of Java. It was only then that M$ started down the C# path, most of which was copied from Java technology.
