Good point...
.NET does help programmers get things done much faster. No one beats Microsoft in terms of User Interface.

Honestly, Java needs to work on API just like Microsoft needs to work on the stability of their products. In my opinion, language does not really matter for the programmers. A programmer who can't adapt to new languages quickly can't be considered a programmer at all since most languages are similar and their basic concepts are most likely the same (for most OO languages anyway).

As for Microsoft, they shouldn't merge all their components together. For not all their products are stable. Putting them all together means whenever one component failed will lead to the unstability of the whole. For instance, watching a problematic video played with WinDVD or Media player will both cause the software to crush. The difference is that if you played with WinDVD, only the application would crush. In the latter case, the OS may become unstable as well.

All in all, everyone wants the same thing: a product with Windows' User Friendliness and Linux's stability (preferebly with a reasonable cost). Whichever company can come up with such product will certainly win the market over.
