Well, yes. It's a bit much to say that C# the language in and of itself is "better" than Java, since the two are so similar. The difference, really, is the API. I've heard from several people who have used Java and .Net in real projects and they prefer .Net. The reason they all give is "I can get stuff done so much faster in it." I read a review of the .Net Framework a year or two ago, which basically confirmed this by saying that the .Net API makes things easier than in J2EE by offering functions that do a lot of the detailed work for the programmer so they don't have to worry about it. In that sense I suppose the API shares this quality with JBoss, which makes J2EE easier to program.

In the past I've advocated that Sun open source Java because I thought that before long the company was either going to go under or get bought, and that their ownership (most call it "stewardship") of the rights to the JVM and the language could cause Java adoption to falter for this reason because people might fear that Java was going to "go down with the ship". It's hard to believe I would say such a thing about a language, but a few years ago I would've said the same thing to Microsoft about Visual Basic if it were in Sun's dire straits.
