Ummm -- right. Sort of like JEDEC -- the technical committees pass a standard and according to the bylaws, the Board either approves it or not, but the Board doesn't have the power to change it.

Unless, of course, the 800-pound gorilla of the semiconductor industry (think lower-case letter i) throws its weight around. Then, the standard passed by the technical committee ...

gets voted up or down, but not edited by the Board.

Of course, I'm sure Don will tell us that Microsoft has more power over the membership of the ISO [1] than Intel has over JEDEC.

[1] Hint: it consists of national governments. You know, like the EU.
