Been there...
My PDC at home (yes, I'm a bit of a geek, it goes with the profession) is a stage 1 Gentoo box. Took forever to build (old P3 500), but it has been incredibly reliable. The term 'set it and forget it' comes to mind. I'll probably do a very stripped-down Gentoo build, I just wanted to see if anyone else had any suggestions.
