So the Cell CPU is a PPC(-like) core with multiple SPUs? In which case Linux already runs on PPC (and has for ages), and now the 2.6.16 kernel can use the SPUs too.

It sure sounds like Linux is really supporting the Cell processor to me: it can now run on the core and use the "enormous computing power of the SPUs".
