Poppycock
Anyone but me notice it's all the industry pundits whining, spreading FUD and the PC manufacturers don't care, actually support the move?
This is a non-issue. If it's really that big a problem I have no doubt the PC makers could band together and force MS to offer a free upgrade to any new PC sold late in 2006. Problem solved. Unless of course this was a calculated move by MS to inflate sales of Vista upgrades by forcing people to buy WinXP machines 2 months before Vista releases, in which case we should all switch to Linux. But I doubt that. Seriously seriously doubt that.
