However, he said, some of the restrictions placed on video content, in the form of Windows file formats and digital rights management, could be frustrating to some.

"If I have a video that I want to share with someone, and they can't play it except on Media Center, people are going to get frustrated," said the attendee, who did not want to be quoted by name.

I?m one of those people. I ditched Media Center for another product that didn?t have DRM. Also, it is not just that you can?t share your video: you can?t view your video through anything but Media Center on the computer that it was recorded. This means that not only can?t you view your video on other computers that you have, you also can?t view your video on other video players on the Media Center machine you recorded it - including Windows Media Player. Also, if your computer?s configuration should significantly change, or you have to reinstall Windows, then your library of content becomes unplayable and hence worthless. Also, HBO can send a signal if it wants that makes your content unplayable and hence worthless as well. Media Center is nothing more than a nice looking, padded cell.
