Key Word
Quote, Until other desktop OSes (Mac, Linux, Solaris) get a critical mass around the world, lock-in tricks will continue to work for MS. Unquote.

What is the key word in this statement? WORLD - MS does NOT have the world locked-in. We North Americans always believe that our practices, products, vendors, etc. are the only game in town.

Don't be so naive. Globalization is MS's downfall and you don't need to take my word for it. Just look at how country after country, city after city around the world have migrated to Linux servers and Linux Desktops and not just because of price - think back to the recent past where MS announced it would make it's Office products available for only $50 to countries such as Taiwan, etc. in answer to MS's attempt to stop piracy. Have the masses bought it wholesale? No!

Just because you think that Office is the end all to be all, mimicking Mr. Balmer, doesn't make it so. There are so many products that all work copacetically because of Open Standards within Open Source. MS wants to control it all but has failed and will continue to fail. Office - best of breed? Only if you live in North America.

Now, if you limit your comments to North America where the sheep no longer run free, then have at it. But don't make the assumption that the rest of the world is on-side with either Mr. Balmer or Microsoft or your limited views.
