Microsoft continues to Struggle with the Web
I think Microsoft hands down has the small and mid-size business community in its hand. And I think they may be looking to embrace the larger business market. They have a great OS, despite all the complaints and have built some of the best, most widely used Office suite since the 1980's. They will keep that market...it aint goin' nowhere. Lets be honest!

Where I think Microsoft is and will crash and burn is on the Web. Im completly shocked and baffled at how porrly they do when it comes to web technologies, services, applications, and technologies. Everything from ASP.NET and some of the Web Standards blunders there to IE and XHTML/CSS to fcailure to adopt W3C recmmendation like the rest of the world, to delays in getting Live out there, to search engines. Across the board its like they dont understand or appreciate the Internet AT ALL! Im wondering if because they thought some years ago there was no control over markets and no money in it? No wonder they barely grew last year and profits are down.

I predict that there the next level of technology players that has the know-how to appreciate the web, undrestand the technologies inside and out, and the correct market thats there has yet been born. If IBMand Google can build more open source, enterprise level, business savy, web standards-based technologies they have the chance to beat Microsoft at their game.

Sure, Steve, its about "people" but it also about the web. You guys have COMPLETELY missed the web. I sure hope you hire new people who have the knowldge and who understand the web and what it tales to succeed online like Google has done. Keep building expensive, proprietary software models and technologies and you will someday be left behind by the open source movement and technologies taking shape online...
