Actually...
Very little of the spam attributed to Yahoo addresses is actually sent through Yahoo. In the vast majority of cases, the From field is forged and the e-mail is actually sent through an open proxy with a no-name IP address.

I suspect that is much of the reason for Yahoo's intreest.
