Ummm. they are all Intel PC's now, aren't they?
"If you want to avoid the 'proprietary' and 'monopolistic' hell on earth you think MS has brought about, why oh why ole geekyboy are you even thinking of going Intel?"

Buying Intel hardware is not the same as subsidizing MS. Non-Mac PC hardware can be bought in pieces, assembled, and then be set to run almost any of the several hundred OS's(if you count all the various releases still available) available right now on it. (yes, I know there are lots of old wierd OS's that won't work on today's hardware, but are they still around? Not really.)
Even large manufacturers like Dell are beginning to sell boxes with no stink of MS on them; you can buy Xandros and Linspire machines at Walmart, for cripes sakes. In fact, about the only OS I can't run today on my Non-Mac PC hardware is Apple's OS, as they insist that I buy their hardware to have the priviledge of running their software.
So who is proprietary and locked in now?

Intel does not mean MS, anymore than it means Apple.
